The teenager accused of murdering 15-year-old Elianne Andam at a South London bus stop can now be named as he turns 18. Hassan Sentamu, who was 17 at the time of the attack, is charged with the fatal stabbing of Elianne on September 27, 2023.
Elianne was attacked by Sentamu, who was masked and gloved, shortly after meeting friends. Despite attempts to save her, she was pronounced dead at 9:21 am. Sentamu was arrested later that day.
In March, Sentamu pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder. The prosecution rejected his plea, and a trial is scheduled for November. Sentamu also faces charges for possessing a blade in public.
Elianne, a student at Old Palace of John Whitgift, was remembered as a “much-loved” pupil. Her family, devastated by her loss, has called for prayers. Tributes have poured in from celebrities including Idris Elba and Stormzy, who attended a vigil in her honor.
Her funeral was a celebration of her life, reflecting her passion for justice and kindness. The trial will commence at the Old Bailey on November 25.
