Campbell’s Soup VP fired after audio surfaces claiming the soup is for poor people and made with bioengineered chicken

A high-ranking executive at Campbell Soup Company has been dismissed following the release of a secret recording in which he disparaged the company’s food and insulted customers, the company confirmed.

Martin Bally, who served as vice president and chief information security officer for Campbell’s, is no longer with the company after audio of a private conversation was made public. The recording, shared by former employee Robert Garza, reportedly captures Bally making offensive remarks about the quality of the company’s soup and those who buy it.

In the audio, Bally allegedly complains about what he calls “bioengineered meat” and refers to the products as something for “poor people,” questioning who buys the soups and claiming he hardly eats them himself.

Campbell Soup Company issued a statement saying it has zero tolerance for language that is offensive or inaccurate, and emphasized that the comments do not reflect the company’s values. The company also strongly denied the criticisms about its food, clarifying that its soups contain 100 % real chicken from USDA-approved suppliers and meet its standards for quality and ingredients.

Garza, who worked as a cybersecurity analyst for the company, alleges he was fired in early 2025 after reporting Bally’s comments to his supervisor. He has since filed a lawsuit accusing Campbell’s of retaliation and maintaining a racially hostile work environment for not addressing the executive’s conduct appropriately.

The controversy has sparked broader public attention, with parts of the recording also including remarks reportedly directed at colleagues. Campbell’s response highlighted that the executive’s language was “vulgar, offensive and false,” and stated the company regrets any harm the comments caused to customers, employees, and the public.
