Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones has offered to pay $1.5 million to cover the cost of stolen chicken wings in an attempt to free Vera Lidell, a former Illinois school worker. Lidell, who stole $1.5 million worth of food, including chicken wings, from the Harvey School District in Dolton, Illinois, was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Lidell, 66, had worked for the district for over a decade before her arrest. An audit revealed that the school district’s food service department had overspent its annual budget by $300,000, leading to the discovery of her scheme. Lidell’s job involved placing food orders with Gordon Food Services, but the stolen chicken wings were not typically served to students due to their bones.
Jones has publicly offered to pay for the stolen wings on social media, stating, “I’ll pay for the wings that she stole to get her free.” This offer comes despite Jones and Lidell having no apparent personal connection.
