A man shot and killed by a Dallas SWAT team last Wednesday has been confirmed as a member of Representative Jasmine Crockett’s security detail.
According to CBS News, 39-year-old Diamon-Mazairre Robinson was reportedly driving a GMC Yukon with stolen government license plates when the Dallas Police Department pursued him. Robinson reportedly barricaded himself in the parking garage of Children’s Medical Center Dallas. SWAT officers used tear gas to try to remove him, and when he exited the vehicle holding a firearm, he was shot and killed by the team. Authorities said Robinson had 11 weapons in his possession, including the gun he aimed at officers, which was allegedly stolen.
Robinson had multiple arrests between 2009 and 2017 and had active warrants at the time of the incident. His charges included theft across Dallas, Duncanville, Irving, and Dallas County, as well as arrests by the Texas Department of Public Safety. These arrests led to both felony and misdemeanor charges, resulting in fines and probation.
He was also under federal investigation for impersonating a police officer. Robinson reportedly assumed a new identity as “Mike King,” which allowed him to join Crockett’s security team. Under this identity, he ran a business called Off Duty Police Services, placing off-duty officers into security roles. Some officers told CBS News that Robinson claimed to be an undercover federal officer, a factor believed to have prompted the federal investigation.
Rep. Crockett issued a statement expressing concern over how Robinson was able to join her security detail despite his criminal history. “The fact that an individual was able to somehow circumvent the vetting processes for something as sensitive as security for members of Congress highlights the loopholes and shortcomings in many of our systems,” she said. “This is incredibly alarming, especially for those members who receive high volumes of credible and sophisticated death threats.”
Crockett also clarified that her office followed proper House protocols in adding security personnel. “We were approved to use this vendor, who also provided security services for additional entities in the local community and worked closely with law enforcement agencies, including Capitol Police,” she said.
Her office expressed grief at Robinson’s death and emphasized that he never raised suspicion while working with the team. “We are praying for the friends and family of the man that we knew as Mike King. There was never any reason to suspect that he wasn’t who he held himself out to be. He never endangered our team, worked diligently, coordinated with local law enforcement, and maintained positive relationships throughout the community,” the statement read.
“As a former public defender, the Congresswoman has always believed that people have an immense capacity for redemption and deserve second chances,” the statement added. Crockett’s office said it will not answer further questions on the matter until more information becomes available.
